Class 10 Physics Light: reflection and refraction practice quiz (CBSE Chapter 9)
3 min read
Light – Reflection and Refraction is the chapter where Class 10 physics turns into drawing and calculating. The board exam asks three things: read or draw a ray diagram and say what the image is like, use the mirror and lens formulae with the sign convention, and know the refractive index and power definitions well enough to use them in a numerical. The three practice quizzes below follow that order, and each one opens in practice mode, so you answer at your own pace, keep the answer hidden until you have chosen, and read a one-line working after every question.
Learning this chapter is easier as a quiz than as a page of notes. Four choices, one correct answer, and the explanation you were missing. That is how we make learning fun with a quiz.
1. Reflection and spherical mirrors
Twelve questions on the laws of reflection, images in plane, concave and convex mirrors, the sign convention, uses of mirrors and the terms the examiner expects. Four of them show a ray diagram with the object placed and the rays drawn, and ask where the image forms and what it is like. If you can answer those four from the picture, the table in the NCERT book is yours.

Make a 12-question practice quiz for CBSE Class 10 on reflection of light: laws of reflection, images in plane, concave and convex mirrors, the New Cartesian sign convention and uses of mirrors. Include four ray diagrams of a concave or convex mirror with the object placed and no image drawn, asking where the image forms and what it is like. Explain every answer.
2. Refraction, lenses and refractive index
Twelve questions on why light bends, Snell's law, refractive index as a ratio of speeds, the glass slab, and images in convex and concave lenses. Four ray diagrams again, this time with lenses, and one table of refractive indices to compare speeds from. The magnifying-glass and camera positions are both in here.
Make a 12-question practice quiz for CBSE Class 10 on refraction of light: refraction, Snell's law, refractive index and the speed of light, the glass slab, and images in convex and concave lenses. Include four lens ray diagrams with the object placed and no image drawn, and one table of refractive indices. Explain every answer.
3. Mirror formula, lens formula and power
Ten numericals: the mirror formula and lens formula with proper signs, magnification from image and object distances, power of a lens in dioptres, and two tables of experimental readings to find a focal length from. Every explanation shows the substitution, so a wrong answer tells you exactly which sign you dropped.
Make a 10-question numerical practice quiz for CBSE Class 10 on the mirror formula, lens formula, magnification and power of a lens, using the New Cartesian sign convention. Show the working in every explanation, and include a table of object and image distances to find a focal length from.
Making more from your NCERT notes
